Have you ever thought about the rod that Moses carried around with him? Moses already had the rod in his possession before God ever spoke to him. The Shepard's rod helped Moses steady himself as he walked around the mountainous area where he lived with his father in law, Jethro. And as you most likely already surmise it was to help tend the flock. Now the rod had nothing special about it. It was just an ordinary, everyday Shepard's rod, that is however until Moses needed something earthy that he could "touch" to bring him some kind of assurance that God was ever present in his life. Did the rod have the power of God in it? Well I guess that's up to debate, but I think not. Moses had the power within himself all the time. He just did not have enough faith in God to realize that God could use him. So Moses put his trust in the rod. If you have read and studied this story, You will note that Moses many a time questioned God as to why God picked him for the task of leading the children of Israel out of bondage and out of Egypt. It seems that Moses had pretty low self esteem. as do a lot of people this day and age. God wanted Moses to try. If Moses would have tried on his own, he would not have had to trust in a stick. All God wants us to do when we hear the call to service is try. God will supply us with any and all that we need to do what He wants us to do. God will never ask you to do anything that he will not supply you with every need in doing that service. So remember the next time someone ask you to do something, and you think that there is no way that you have the courage to do it. Just pick up a stick and go. And know that God is with you.
God bless
