Psalms 23 is what Willard gave as his message yesterday at the nursing home. Just six little verses from the word of God. But what powerful words they are, as in verse one we too may realize as did David that if the Lord is our Shepherd and we follow Him as we should, He will supply all our needs.
And verse two as we follow the Lord we can take rest in knowing that He will only lead us in places that are safe so we may nourish our souls and as a calm pool of water frightens not the sheep, neither do we have anything to be afraid of as long as we follow and obey God.
Verse three, He has restored our souls to righteousness through the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And we are kept in that assurance by the ever flowing promise of Mercy and Grace. Not by our own power but by and for Jesus Christ.
Verse four. First of all, we Christians know that death is our friend that takes us out of this sinful world. But death is only a shadow because we as Christians will never see it. Our Lord Jesus Christ defeated death and hell on the cross as He gave His all for us. Death is just a shadow and there has to be light for a shadow to form. Jesus is that light that was sent into this world. So don't be afraid of the shadows, just look toward the light'"" Jesus""'. And as a good Shepherd Jesus is there with His rod. He can use that rod to protect us or He can use that rod to correct us, either way He uses it, it will be for our own good,
verse five, God has the table set, all we have to do is take in all the blessings that come from God's table. And as we take note of all that God has done for us, we realize that truly our cups do overflow with such abundance that we can not possibly hold it all.
And finally verse 6, The Lord is so good to us. And we are so undeserving of all that He has done for us, But yet His Mercy is everlasting to those that have excepted Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. And as Jesus Himself said, I go to prepare a place for you. So we know that we have an everlasting home with our Lord, after we move on to Glory. After these bodies can no longer hold on to us.
Each verse in this Psalm is so powerful. And if you will think about it, It's a miracle in it's self that we even have the word of God to read. Just think about all the things that have happened to keep this word in existence!
God bless.
Psalm 23
A Psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
